Today was a beautiful Sabbath, the last summer Saturday of 2019. And wow, was she showing off! Here in Michigan, temperatures were in the 80s with sunny skies and high humidity. The autumnal equinox greets us early Monday morning but if my leaf-strewn yard is any indication, fall has arrived.
Bella was glowing today, attending her high school homecoming formal this evening. We beamed with her, waiting expectantly for her date to arrive, laughing about etiquette and hypothetical faux pas. She had a lovely time and decided the best after-party was with her daddy on the drive up north. You can imagine how happy this made Scott. Oh yeah, to Paris for some coveted cousin time!
Last week I wrote sentimentally about trees. Thirty-five acres of red and Austrian pine are in the process of being harvested from our property in northwest Michigan. The whole process will take approximately five weeks. A friend asked me about it and I realized that I left out some important details.
We are being well paid for the trees. Approximately 30,000 pine translates to thousands of dollars. We have a transactional relationship with the loggers; there is no foul play here and no gratuitous tree-felling. No one is forcing us to give up the trees; all are accounted for.
The same can’t be said for the people that David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt represent. These two are Lorax who speak for humans who can't speak for themselves. The Once-ler in this drama is America’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, which infamously earned three Pinocchios from The Washington Post for skewing its data.

Daleiden and Merritt are undercover journalists who created a fictitious biomedical research company and orchestrated surreptitious recordings of meetings in which they asked Planned Parenthood employees and partner organizations about fetal tissue procurement costs and techniques.
According to The Center for Medical Progress (CMP), “Planned Parenthood uses two primary models to harvest and sell fetal body parts: partnership with tissue procurement organizations, and direct supply to local buyers. In practice, both models operate in a way to minimize Planned Parenthood’s cost while maximizing the fees and profits it can receive for high-quality body parts.”
High-quality body parts. Those would be things like brains, hearts, kidneys—parts that we living humans need to exist.
It is a federal crime to sell unborn human body parts. And despite compelling evidence, so far, Planned Parenthood and other members of the abortion industry have avoided criminal conviction. Instead, Daleiden and Merritt have found themselves facing serious felony charges for allegedly improperly recording conversations.
The recent trial in California featured obstetrician-gynecologist Dr. Forrest Smith, who has done at least 50,000 abortions. He testified on the witness stand that it is almost certain that some of the abortionists featured in the undercover videos deliberately altered abortion procedures in a way that both led to the birth of living babies with beating hearts, and put women at risk. The goal in these cases: to harvest fresher, more intact organs.
New footage of Daleiden and Merritt’s undercover interviews has been released. Just as with the past videos, critics will claim they are altered. Consider the motives. Who wants to protect the preborn? Who profits from their demise?
A member of Daleiden and Merritt’s defense team, Matt Heffron, had this to say in an editorial:
“…on the same day as [California Attorney General] Becerra paraded the phony criminal charges, Mr. Daleiden and CMP deftly and defiantly released a new video of a Phoenix abortionist calmly discussing the delivery of intact babies, and how their treatment after delivery (life or death) depended entirely on 'who’s in the room.' She previously had been a longtime abortionist at Planned Parenthood-Los Angeles and had been trained by Dr. Deborah Nucatola, who also introduced her in the video segment. That is the same Dr. Nucatola, Planned Parenthood’s chief medical officer, who was heard in the now infamous initial CMP video, while munching salad and swilling wine at lunch, discussing how she 'crunched above...crunched below' while dismembering babies in the womb in a way to tear out and preserve the most profitable parts for sale. I am imagining A.G. Becerra and his staff at the upcoming criminal trial squirming mightily as they try to minimize the effect of these two witnesses’ blood-curdling cross-examinations.
"As horrible as it is for A.G. Becerra to threaten some of California’s citizens with a political show trial – and that is all these criminal charges amount to -- there also is an upside. The longer the spotlight is kept on Planned Parenthood and the National Abortion Federation, the more the public will be exposed to the sheer gruesomeness of dismembering infants, in or out of the womb, and selling their human parts. And the more unfair this prosecution is revealed to be, the more clear it will become that Big Abortion has much more to hide from the light. Ultimately, the jury in this case will be so revolted, they will do the right thing by Mr. Daleiden and Ms. Merritt, and agree that Planned Parenthood and the National Abortion Federation are the only criminals here.”
